The entire membership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in West Indies Union, comprising Jamaica, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and the Cayman Islands, will write the Bible – from Genesis to Revelation – on Sabbath September 12, 2009. The day dubbed “Bible Day” in the Union is part of the Global Adventist initiative called “Follow the Bible”
The writing of the 31,173 verses of the New King James version of the Bible will have the full participation of all members including administrators and other workers of the Union Conferences, Missions, and institutions in the Union. All the verses will be collated and bound to form a handwritten Bible.
On September 9, 2009, all churches held a special Consecration Service in preparation for the writing of the Bible. This included special prayers for September 12, “Bible Day” – and the use of scripture songs only during the service.
Other activities for “Bible Day” include:
- All songs to be sung during the day should be Scripture songs (passages directly from the Bible).
- Members will adopt a Bible character and dress like that person. They should also learn all there is to know about that person and be willing to share the information (or dramatize) during the day’s programme.
Follow the Bible, which is an initiative of the Adventist World Church, has as it objectives to bring about a revival in Bible study and to heighten in every member, the need to study God’s word. It will climax in the Union with the arrival of an 18 ins. X 12 ins. Bible - with each of the 66 chapters written in a different language - from December 11 – 13, 2009.
