The administrators, workers and membership of the West Indies Union Conference (WIU) is mourning the passing of Pastor L. Herbert Fletcher, outstanding pastor, educator and church administrator, who passed away on Wednesday November 4, 2009 in Miami, Florida. He was 79. Pastor Fletcher suffered for many years from heart disease, having had more than one heart attack.

Pastor Fletcher served as Treasurer of West Indies Union Conference from 1971 to 1973 before serving as president of West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University (NCU) from 1973 - 1980. He also served as Youth Director East Jamaica Conference and WIU. His final years of service were at the Inter-American Division, where he served as Education Director.
Born a third generation Seventh-day Adventist in Jamaica in 1930, Pastor Fletcher’s grandfather, Pastor Hubert Fletcher, was one of the first ordained Adventist ministers and pioneers within the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Pastor Fletcher is survived by wife Olive, son Herbert Jr., daughter Barbara and grand children.
A memorial service will be on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Miami Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church, at a time to be announced.
