The Bible Arrives in Jamaica

Jamaica is the 112th stop for the traveling multi-language Bible that has been touring the world since October 2008.

At approximately 11:35 am on Friday, December 11, 2009, American Airlines Flight # 984 landed at the Sir Donald Sangster International Airport with the 18” x 12” Bible, which weighs 16.80 pounds or 7.6 kg.

Pastor Guanther Garcia, Secretary of the South Central American Union of Seventh-day Adventists took the Bible from Costa Rica and delivered it to Pastor Derek Bignall, President of the Adventist Church in West Indies Union. The handover took place at the airport.

Besides Pastor Bignall, Pastor Garcia was met at the airport by the Union’s vice-presidents and directors, the presidents of the West Jamaica Conference, North Jamaica Conference, Bahamas Conference, and Cayman Islands Conference, along with pastors, pathfinders and master guides, and other directors and staff of the West Jamaica and North Jamaica, and Cayman Islands Conferences.

Shortly after a motorcade, which included ‘walking, talking’ bibles and the distribution of Bibles and Christian Magazines, the day culminated in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, with a civic ceremony.

The Bible’s sojourn in Jamaica continues with church and civic functions at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) and Mandeville Park in Mandeville on Saturday, December 12. It will then journey to the National Arena in Kingston on Sunday December 13 for a grand climax.

The Bible leaves Jamaica on December 14 for Caracas, Venezuela.
